Defect
The leaf spring movable contact inside the brake lamp actuating switch is improperly assembled. Repeated brake applications may cause the leaf spring to fracture. Fragments from the fractured spring may hold the brake lamp in a permanently illuminated state or prevent it from illuminating at all.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected actuating switch with a conforming part.
