Filing in context
The Door is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 103 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 28 Hino notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 2,840 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 12 years and 4 months.
Defect
On transit bus glide-slide doors, cracks may develop in the spring pins that secure the bracket — which transmits force from the door air cylinder — to the pivot shaft that opens and closes the door. Continued use in this condition can cause the spring pins to fracture. In the worst case, both spring pins fracture simultaneously, causing the door to open while the vehicle is in motion or making it impossible for the driver to operate the door from the driver's seat.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the spring pins with new units as an interim measure. Once a permanent corrective part is determined, the interim parts are replaced with the permanent solution.
