Defect
In the vehicle interior wiring, the electrical circuit for the cargo box rear gate locking solenoid is not protected by a fuse. If a short circuit occurs, the wiring may melt and produce smoke. In the worst case, the damage spreads to adjacent wiring and causes lighting and other electrical components to stop functioning.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected wiring with fuse-protected wiring.
