Recall 1108580 — Exhaust Emission Reduction Device

Filed August 20, 2002 · Mitsubishi

Overview

MLIT filing number1108580
TypeStatutory Recall (government-mandated recall)
Date filedAugust 20, 2002
Manufacturer(s)Mitsubishi
ComponentExhaust Emission Reduction Device
Production periodJanuary 1998 — April 2002
Vehicles affected32,000 units

Defect

In the exhaust emission control system, the ventilation hole specification on the element cover of the heated O2 sensor is improper. Moisture contained in exhaust gas immediately after a cold start may adhere to the sensor element. The heater then rapidly heats the element, causing sudden thermal contraction and cracking the element. The resulting sensor malfunction may cause exhaust emission values to exceed regulatory limits.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the O2 sensor with a corrected part.
