Defect
The turbine blades of the variable-nozzle turbocharger on the engine have insufficient rigidity. Continued use causes partial damage to the turbine blades, producing abnormal noise and power loss. In the worst case, black smoke emissions may exceed the regulatory limit.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the turbocharger and the turbocharger electronic control unit with corrected parts.
