Defect
The shaft of the oil pump motor in the continuously variable transmission has insufficient strength. Continued use may cause the motor shaft to fracture, rendering the vehicle inoperable. Additionally, the coupling angle between the oil pump and the motor shaft, and the software controlling motor operating torque, are improperly designed. This generates excessive stress at the shaft coupling. Continued use causes wear at the coupling, preventing the oil pump from operating and, in the worst case, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the motor and oil pump with corrected parts and reprogram the motor control software.
