Filing in context
This filing is one of 20 Honda notifications from 2000 in this archive. For scale, 150 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 years and 8 months.
Defect
The circuit board design of the audio head unit is improper, causing the board to operate at elevated temperatures. Continued operation degrades the capacitors, leading to a short circuit between terminals. In the worst case, the speaker may catch fire.
Corrective action
Inspect all vehicles. On any vehicle fitted with the affected audio unit, replace the affected circuit board in the audio head unit with the corrected part.
