Defect

The assembly instructions for the balancer shaft oil seal in the engine are improper. Continued operation reduces the seal's retention force. In the worst case, the seal may be expelled from its bore, causing an engine oil leak.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, install an auxiliary retaining plate to prevent the affected seal from being expelled.
