Filing in context
The Engine Assembly is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 43 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 15 Suzuki notifications from 2019 in this archive. For scale, 1,548 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 4 months.
Issue
Improper taper machining of the crankshaft generator rotor mounting section causes the crankshaft and generator rotor to seat incorrectly. During engine operation, excessive load is applied to the generator rotor locating keyway on the crankshaft. In the worst case, the crankshaft may break, causing the engine to stall while driving.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the taper surface of the crankshaft generator rotor mounting section for wear. If wear exceeds the allowable limit, replace the crankshaft with a non-defective unit and the generator rotor with a new part. If wear is within the allowable limit, measure the taper geometry; if the taper geometry is out of specification, replace the generator rotor with a corrected part matched to the crankshaft taper profile. On vehicles for which the vehicle identification number confirms that the crankshaft taper geometry is definitively out of specification, replace the generator rotor with a corrected part without performing a taper geometry measurement.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 2 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
