Filing in context
The Computer (powertrain) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 14 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 34 Hino notifications from 2017 in this archive. For scale, 2,779 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 9 years and 10 months.
Issue
On minibuses, the automatic transmission fail-safe control program is improperly designed. When the vehicle speed sensor malfunctions, the fail-safe function does not activate, allowing the transmission to abruptly downshift to a low gear while the vehicle is in motion. In the worst case, this causes sudden deceleration while driving.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the automatic transmission ECU with a corrected part.
