Filing in context
The Door is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 103 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 31 Hino notifications from 2016 in this archive. For scale, 2,649 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 7 years and 11 months.
Defect
On small low-floor buses, the circuit for the door position detection switch is improperly designed, allowing current exceeding the rated value to flow through the contacts when the switch activates. This causes contact surface damage. Continued use may result in the contacts remaining permanently closed, and in the worst case, the door may become unable to close.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, a resistor is added to the switch circuit and the switch is replaced with a new unit.
