Defect
The shape of the rear mounting bracket on the spare tire carrier is incorrect. Variation in the mounting angle at the front attachment point, combined with vibration during vehicle operation, may cause cracks to develop at the rear mounting point of the spare tire carrier. Continued use may cause the rear mounting point to break, allowing the spare tire to detach from the vehicle.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the spare tire carrier and the rear mounting bracket with corrected parts.
