Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 3 manufacturers: Daihatsu, Subaru & Toyota.
This is the only Daihatsu notification from 2026 in this archive. For scale, 112 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 6 years and 8 months.
Defect
Assembly instructions for installing the cowl louver to the body were insufficient, allowing rainwater to leak through the water-seal and drip onto the brake booster. This causes rust to form on the brake booster. Continued use accelerates rust progression and, in the worst case, can perforate the brake booster, increasing brake pedal effort and extending stopping distance.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the brake booster and perform one of the following corrective actions: (1) If no rust or only minor rust is present, apply rust inhibitor. (2) If widespread rust from water dripping is found at the lower end of the brake booster, apply rust inhibitor and replace the cowl louver water seal with a corrected part. (3) If rust has progressed to peeling or perforation, replace the brake booster with a new unit and replace the cowl louver water seal with a corrected part.
