Defect
On large wing-body trucks, insufficient design consideration was given to the installation position of the mount brackets that connect the chassis frame to the cargo bed. As a result, on some vehicles the holes drilled for mount bracket installation overlap with pre-existing holes, and bolts and nuts were installed in this overlapping condition. This prevents the mount brackets from maintaining adequate clamping force to the chassis frame, causing the nuts to loosen during service. In the worst case, the bolts and nuts may fall from the vehicle while driving, creating a hazard to following vehicles.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the drilled hole condition at the affected area. If overlapping holes are found, add a seating plate to the inside of the chassis frame and retorque the fasteners to the specified value.
