Filing in context
The Fuel Pump is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 57 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 18 Honda notifications from 2024 in this archive. For scale, 672 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 3 months.
Defect
On hybrid vehicles, an improper machining process for high-pressure fuel pump components allowed metal particles generated during machining to become trapped between the component and the machining fixture. This causes cracks to form on the machined end face. Continued use allows vibration during pump operation to propagate the cracks through the material, resulting in a fuel leak.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, measure the HC concentration near the high-pressure fuel pump. On any vehicle where the concentration exceeds the specified value, replace the pump with a corrected/revised part.
