Defect
The engine control unit (ECU) contains an improperly designed control program that misidentifies a momentary crankshaft reversal—which occurs normally during EV operation or regenerative braking while engine stop-position control is active—as a fault. The ECU then resets and erases stored diagnostic trouble information. As a result, the vehicle does not conform to the on-board diagnostic system technical standards prescribed in Article 31 of the Safety Standards (Appended Table 48 of the Detailed Regulations).
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control unit (ECU) with the corrected/updated software.
