Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 3 manufacturers: Daihatsu, Subaru & Toyota.
The Fuel pump is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 37 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 10 Daihatsu notifications from 2023 in this archive. For scale, 175 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 1 month.
Defect
On the impeller (resin impeller wheel) of the fuel pump, improper molding conditions reduce the resin density, allowing the impeller to swell and deform when exposed to fuel. The deformed impeller contacts the pump case, causing the fuel pump to malfunction. In the worst case, the engine may stall while driving.
Corrective action
Replace the fuel pump with a corrected part on all vehicles.
