Filing in context
The Engine Control Computer (ECU) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 5 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 31 Honda notifications from 2014 in this archive. For scale, 288 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year.
Defect
Due to incorrect programming of the engine control computer (ECU), excessive motor drive force may be generated in two scenarios: while the transmission is engaging gear after the shift lever is moved to D or R from a stop during engine drive mode, or when the vehicle enters a steep slope slowly in EV travel mode, briefly stops while the engine starts, and the accelerator pedal is heavily depressed. In either case, the vehicle may accelerate suddenly.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control computer with the corrected/updated software.
Affected models & chassis ranges
