Filing in context
The Engine Control Computer (ECU) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 5 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 31 Honda notifications from 2014 in this archive. For scale, 288 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year.
Defect
Due to incorrect programming of the engine control computer (ECU), the estimated clutch friction characteristics learned by the ECU may deviate from the actual clutch friction characteristics. When this deviation is present and the engine is started by motor drive during EV travel mode, the motor may generate excessive drive force. As a result, vehicle speed may momentarily increase without driver intent.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control computer with the corrected/updated software.
