Defect
The permanent-magnet retarder (auxiliary brake) mounted on the rear axle and actuated by air pressure is affected by a design error in the connector terminal arrangement of the chassis harness that connects to the retarder harness. The incorrect terminal layout causes excess current to flow through the temperature sensor, which may result in a broken wire in the internal circuit. With the internal circuit disconnected, the retarder's thermal protection function does not activate. The rubber components inside the air-pressure cylinder are then subjected to excessive heat and become damaged, causing air pressure loss and an air leak at the magnetic valve. Continued operation with this condition causes a warning lamp to illuminate and an audible alarm to sound due to low air pressure. In the worst case, the clutch assist function, which draws from the same air tank, stops operating, making gear changes impossible and rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, install a conversion harness between the chassis harness and the retarder harness to correct the terminal arrangement, and inspect the temperature sensor. If damage is found, replace the temperature sensor with a new unit. If an air leak is present, replace the cylinder, magnetic valve, and related components with new parts.

状況
リアアクスルに備えられたエア圧により作動する永久磁石式リターダ(補助ブレーキ)において、リターダハーネスへ接続するシャシハーネスのコネクタ端子の設計に誤りがあり不適切な端子配列になっているため、温度センサに過電流が流れ、内部回路が断線することがある。そのため、リターダの温度上昇に係る保護機能が作動せず、エア圧を保つシリンダ内部のゴム部品が損傷してしまうことでエア圧が保てなくなり、マグネチックバルブからエア漏れが発生し、そのまま使用を続けるとエア圧低下により警告灯が点灯するとともに警報が鳴り、最悪の場合、同一エアタンクのエア圧を用いるクラッチアシスト機能が停止することで変速ができず走行不能に至るおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、シャシハーネスとリターダハーネスの間に適切な端子配列に修正するための変換用ハーネスを追加するとともに、温度センサを点検し、損傷が認められたものは温度センサを新品に交換する。また、エア漏れが認められた場合は、シリンダ、マグネチックバルブ等を新品に交換する。
