Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 3 manufacturers: Hino, Isuzu & Mitsubishi.
The Body is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 108 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 25 Hino notifications from 2023 in this archive. For scale, 4,351 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 2 months.
Defect
On large rear-dump vehicles with wear-resistant steel bed specifications, inadequate design and quality evaluation caused cracks to develop in the cargo deck panel at the fender stay area (defect location 1) and the mud flap stay area (defect location 2). Additionally, incorrect drawing instructions for the cargo deck panel at the cross member mounting caused cracks at the rear of the installed cargo deck panel (defect location 3). Continued use allows these cracks to propagate under driving vibration. In the worst case, the fender and mud flap may detach and create a road hazard.
Corrective action
Defect location 1 (all vehicles): Replace the fender stay with a corrected part, change the welding method, and repair any cracks in the cargo deck panel. Defect location 2 (some vehicles): Replace the mud flap stay with a corrected part, change the welding method, and repair any cracks in the cargo deck panel. Defect location 3 (some vehicles): Remove the non-conforming weld and repair any cracks in the cargo deck panel.
