Defect

In replacement front seat belt retractor assemblies, improper manufacturing of internal force limiter components has produced units with incorrect geometry. When the force limiter activates in a collision, belt webbing payout is greater than intended. In the worst case, occupant restraint may be reduced.

Corrective action

On vehicles in which the affected replacement retractor has been installed, inspect the seat belt retractor. Any unit from an affected manufacturing lot must be replaced with a conforming retractor.
