Filing in context

The Computer (engine) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 16 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 8 Honda notifications from 2022 in this archive. For scale, 2,490 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 8 months.

Defect

The engine control unit (ECU) contains an improperly configured control program for the on-board diagnostic system. When diagnostic data processing operations overlap, the data may become corrupted. This causes the ECU to detect an abnormality and reset, which may result in an engine stall. On vehicles equipped with a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission, a failsafe control activates, disengaging the clutch and cutting drive force, which may render the vehicle inoperable.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, the engine control unit is reprogrammed with the corrected/updated software.
