Defect
In the ABS modulator, inadequate control of the grease application equipment during manufacturing caused excessive grease to be applied to the O-ring of the modulator piston. During repeated brake operations, foreign matter adheres to the grease that migrates to the outlet valve. If this contaminated grease becomes trapped in the check valve, stopping distance may increase.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the ABS modulator serial number and replace any affected unit with a conforming part.
