Defect
In the ABS modulator, improper management of the grease application equipment caused excessive grease to be applied to the O-ring of the reservoir piston. Repeated brake applications cause the excess grease to migrate to the modulator outlet valve, where contaminants adhere to it and may become lodged in the check valve. If this occurs, stopping distance increases.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the ABS modulator with a conforming unit.
