Defect
Inadequate foreign-material controls during fuel tank manufacturing allows weld-generated oxides inside the tank to accumulate on the fuel pump suction filter. This clogs the filter, causing engine malfunction. In the worst case, the engine may stall during driving.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, drain all fuel from the tank to remove the oxides, then replace the fuel pump suction filter, fuel filter, and chamber with new parts.
