Filing in context
This filing is one of 34 Isuzu notifications from 2020 in this archive. For scale, 3,223 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 14 years and 9 months.
Defect
On large buses, the metal water supply tank for the toilet has insufficient strength at its mounting brackets. As a result, the mounting brackets may be damaged and the tank may fall away from the vehicle. If the tank detaches, the toilet electrical wiring secured to it may also be damaged, creating a risk of vehicle fire.
Corrective action
Because preparation of a permanent corrective measure for the water supply tank requires additional time, the following interim steps will be taken. (1) On all vehicles, inspect the water supply tank mounting brackets and temporarily secure the tank with a belt. If the tank has already detached, replace it with a new tank. (2) On all vehicles, inspect the toilet electrical wiring for damage, then reposition and re-route the wiring. If the wiring is damaged, repair it. Once a permanent corrective measure for the water supply tank is ready, the repair procedure will be updated accordingly.
