Filing in context
The Engine is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 72 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 33 Isuzu notifications from 2019 in this archive. For scale, 2,651 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 7 months.
Defect
On light-duty trucks, the cylinder head cover is incorrectly shaped, allowing rainwater to pool around the injector oil seal. The accumulated water causes the seal to swell, degrading its sealing performance. Continued operation in this condition allows engine oil to leak and, in the worst case, may result in engine damage.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the cylinder head cover assembly with a corrected part. Inspect the engine oil; if water intrusion is found, flush the engine interior. Additionally, review vehicle driving data and replace the engine on any vehicle that may have sustained damage.
