Defect
On medium-duty trucks equipped with a custom-specification spare tire carrier, improper welding during manufacturing may cause cracks to develop at the joint. The spare tire carrier may then fracture due to vibration and detach from the vehicle, creating a hazard to other traffic.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the weld joint will be inspected. Carriers with defective welds will be replaced with conforming units.
