Defect
In the alternator, the bearing inside the pulley has insufficient durability relative to the accessory belt tension, and the bearing may fail in service. Bearing failure reduces the alternator's ability to absorb engine speed fluctuations, increasing belt tension. Continued operation can then damage the power steering pump bracket. In the worst case, the power steering pump malfunctions, causing a significant increase in steering effort.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the alternator and the accessory belt with corrected parts. Additionally, inspect the bearing inside the alternator pulley; if seizure is found, replace the complete power steering pump assembly with a new unit.

状況
発電機において、補機ベルトの張力に対してプーリ内のベアリングの耐久性が不足しているため、使用過程において当該ベアリングが破損することがある。そのため、エンジン回転変動を吸収する機能が損なわれてベルト張力が増加し、そのまま使用を続けると、当該ベルトで駆動するパワーステアリングポンプのブラケットが破損して、最悪の場合、パワーステアリングポンプが作動不良となり、操舵力が増大するおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、発電機および補機ベルトを対策品と交換する。また、当該発電機プーリ内のベアリングを点検し、固着が認められた場合は、パワーステアリングポンプ一式を新品に交換する。
