Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Isuzu & Nissan.
The Alternator is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 13 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 54 Isuzu notifications from 2012 in this archive. For scale, 1,138 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 10 years and 2 months.
Defect
On vehicles equipped with a turbocharged diesel engine, the lubricating oil inside the clutch integrated into the alternator pulley has insufficient heat resistance. The oil degrades, causing the clutch to fracture. If the vehicle continues to be operated in this condition, the pulley may detach in the worst case.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the alternator with a corrected part.
