Defect

On manual transmission vehicles, the pickup sensor spacer thickness is set incorrectly, allowing wear particles from inside the transmission to accumulate on the tip of the pickup sensor. When the sensor oscillates, its output signal may be temporarily disrupted. This transmits an erroneous signal to the speedometer, causing the indicated speed to momentarily read lower than actual vehicle speed while driving. Additionally, if cruise control is active, it may disengage.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, the pickup sensor spacer is replaced with a corrected washer, and the O-ring is replaced with a new part.
