Issue

The fuel vapor separator connected to the canister is incorrectly positioned within the fuel tank. When the tank is full and fuel sloshes during repeated vehicle launches, liquid fuel may flow from the separator into the canister. Continued operation allows an overly rich mixture to enter the combustion chamber, causing engine malfunction. In the worst case, the engine may stall while driving.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the fuel tank with a corrected part and replace the canister with a new unit. As part of the fuel tank replacement, also replace the seat, pump cover, and drain tube with revised-shape components.
