Defect
On medium-duty trucks, the tightening process for the lock nuts used to adjust intake and exhaust valve clearances is improper, leaving some lock nuts with insufficient torque. Continued operation allows these lock nuts to loosen and fall off, entering the engine interior and causing engine damage.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the lock nut tightening torque and retighten to the specified torque. If a lock nut has fallen off and cannot be located in the surrounding area, replace the engine with a new unit.

状況
中型トラックのエンジンにおいて、吸排気バルブ隙間調整用ロックナットの締付け工程が不適切なため、当該ロックナットの締付けトルクが不足しているものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、当該ロックナットが緩み脱落し、エンジンの内部に浸入することで、エンジンが損傷するおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、当該ロックナットの締付けトルクを点検し、再度、規定トルクで締付ける。なお、当該ロックナットが脱落し、締付け部の周辺に見当たらないものについては、エンジンを新品に交換する。
