Defect

On light trucks, the fuel line and starter wiring retaining brackets are improperly assembled, causing the fuel line and starter wiring to shift from their correct routing positions. This allows the starter wiring to contact surrounding components. Continued use in this condition may damage the wiring insulation, causing a short circuit that prevents the engine from starting.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, the retaining bracket mounting positions are inspected. If incorrectly assembled, the brackets are repositioned correctly, and both the fuel line and starter wiring are replaced with new parts.
