Defect
On driving-school vehicles, the seat-height lifter link on the passenger seat has insufficient strength, and the push nut used to retain the lifter link is improperly secured. This allows the lifter link to crack or the push nut to disengage. Continued use causes abnormal noise and play in the seat. In the worst case, the lifter link may fracture or detach, causing the seat to tilt and preventing the occupant from maintaining a proper seating position.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the lifter link. If no crack is found, add a reinforcement bracket to the lifter link, replace the single push nut with a double push nut configuration, and add a small noise-prevention spring. If a crack is found in the lifter link, replace the seat adjuster unit with a corrected part.
