Filing in context

The Body structure is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 3 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 47 Mitsubishi notifications from 2016 in this archive. For scale, 4,109 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles.

Defect

The welding robot gun path setting used during manufacturing is incorrect, causing the gun to interfere with the left rear section of the rear floor panel. On affected vehicles, the rear floor panel was welded in a misaligned position. This results in insufficient structural strength in the left rear of the body. In a rear-end collision, fuel system components may be damaged, causing a fuel leak.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, inspect the left rear section of the rear floor panel. On vehicles where the panel was welded in a misaligned position, reposition the rear floor panel to the correct location and reweld.
