Defect

In the engine cooling system, the lever that operates the coolant flow-path switching valve inside the belt pump has insufficient strength and may fracture. When the lever breaks, the piston connected to it can disengage from the valve, causing coolant to leak. Continued operation under this condition may result in engine overheating.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the heat shield mounting bolts on the belt pump with corrected parts, modifying the assembly to prevent piston disengagement. If the lever fractures after the corrected bolts have been installed, replace the belt pump at no charge.
