Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mitsubishi & Nissan.
The Computer (Electric Motor) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 5 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 47 Mitsubishi notifications from 2016 in this archive. For scale, 1,561 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 years and 8 months.
Defect
In the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module (HPCM) of hybrid vehicles, the control software for the high-voltage cooling system is incorrect. When the electric water pump fails, the temperature of the drive motor and related components may rise. Continued operation may cause the thermal protection control to activate, shutting down the engine and drive motor and cutting power transmission. In the worst case, the vehicle becomes inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the HPCM high-voltage cooling system control software is reprogrammed with a corrected program that prevents loss of mobility in the event of an electric water pump failure.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 3 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
