Defect

On vehicles equipped with a push-button start system, the starter activation control program is improper. If the shift selector is moved from P to N immediately after pressing the push-start button, the starter may seize internally. The internal seizure causes abnormal noise, and continued use may, in the worst case, prevent the engine from starting.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, reprogram the starter activation control program.
