Defect
Improper assembly of the vacuum pump allows sealant to enter the pump's oil supply port. This reduces the oil level inside the vacuum pump, degrading the oil film seal and causing insufficient negative pressure. In the worst case, brake pedal effort increases and stopping distance is extended.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the vacuum pump with a new unit. Inspect the oil supply port on the cylinder head leading to the vacuum pump and remove any remaining sealant.
