Defect
The lip seal assembly process for the brake booster is performed incorrectly, resulting in some units assembled without grease applied. This increases the sliding resistance of the lip seal, causing it to roll back and allow air to leak. In the worst case, brake pedal effort increases and stopping distance is extended.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the brake booster is inspected and, where applicable, replaced with a conforming unit.
