Defect
In the engine timing chain, the pins connecting the chain plates lack sufficient durability, causing the surface treatment on the pins to wear. Continued use allows the pin insertion holes in the plates to wear, elongating the overall timing chain length. The elongated chain interferes with the chain guide, producing abnormal noise. In the worst case, the timing chain may fracture, causing the engine to stall.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the timing chain, chain guide, and crank sprocket will be replaced with corrected parts.
