Filing in context
The Body is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 108 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 34 Toyota notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 3,946 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 2 months.
Defect
On vehicles converted to a natural gas/gasoline dual-fuel configuration, the floor panel at the fuel tank (gas cylinder) mounting area was designed with insufficient structural consideration, and cracks may develop in the floor panel. Continued use allows the cracks to propagate. In the worst case, the floor panel may fracture and the fuel tank may detach from the vehicle.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the floor panel for cracks, carry out repairs, and replace the tank bracket and related components with corrected/revised parts. Because production of the corrected parts requires time, an interim remedy will be performed first, followed by the permanent remedy once parts are available. (Interim remedy) Repair any fractured floor panel sections; apply sealant or sealing tape to any cracked areas to prevent water intrusion; replace the upper mounting plate for the fuel tank with the corrected/revised part. (Permanent remedy) Repair any cracked floor panel sections; add the revised upper mounting plate for the fuel tank and replace the tank bracket with the corrected/revised part.
