Defect
The tensioner for the engine accessory drive belt is incorrectly designed, allowing belt tension to tilt the tensioner pulley. This causes the belt to slip sideways and disengage while the engine is running, stopping the alternator and water pump and illuminating the warning lamp. In the worst case, the engine may stall and fail to restart.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the engine accessory drive belt and tensioner with corrected parts.
