Filing in context
The Engine (General) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 48 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 24 Suzuki notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 3,722 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 1 month.
Defect
The tensioner for the engine accessory drive belt is incorrectly designed, allowing belt tension to tilt the tensioner pulley. This causes the belt to slip sideways and disengage while the engine is running, stopping the alternator and water pump and illuminating the warning lamp. In the worst case, the engine may stall and fail to restart.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the engine accessory drive belt and tensioner with corrected parts.
