Filing in context
The Wiper is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 14 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 26 Toyota notifications from 2014 in this archive. For scale, 322 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 5 months.
Defect
At the wiper motor mounting area, the drain port geometry is improperly designed. If debris such as fallen leaves is not removed, the drain port may become blocked. Continued operation allows overflow water to penetrate the wiper motor interior and the electrical wiring for the brake lights and other circuits. In the worst case, the wipers and brake lights may cease to function.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the drain port shape will be corrected and the wiper motor will be replaced with a new unit. The electrical wiring will also be inspected and replaced with new wiring if corrosion is found.
