Filing in context
The Seat is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 34 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 26 Toyota notifications from 2014 in this archive. For scale, 27 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 years and 7 months.
Defect
In the fore-aft slide adjustment mechanism of the driver's seat, the retaining spring has insufficient strength. Frequent fore-aft seat adjustments may cause the spring to fracture, leaving the seat unsecured. In the worst case, the seat may move while the vehicle is in motion.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the driver's seat rail serial number will be verified, and affected units will be replaced with the corrected/revised part.
