Filing in context
The Drive Power Supply (Battery) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 2 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 56 Mitsubishi notifications from 2014 in this archive. For scale, 1,986 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 months.
Defect
In the Battery Management Unit (BMU) that calculates the remaining drive battery charge, the control program is incorrect. If the vehicle is operated continuously in hybrid drive mode*1 without using external charging or charge mode, the actual remaining battery level may not be displayed correctly on the charge gauge. As a result, the gauge may show sufficient charge remaining while the actual charge continues to decrease, and the vehicle may become inoperable without the EV system warning light illuminating. *1 Hybrid drive mode: a mode in which the vehicle drives while maintaining the battery charge level once it has decreased to a set value.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the BMU control program with the corrected software.
Affected models & chassis ranges
