Defect
On large trucks, the butterfly shaft seal of the intake throttle valve that controls the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system is inadequate, allowing condensation from intake air to enter the interior of the throttle valve. Continued operation may cause the engine warning light to illuminate and the intake throttle valve to malfunction, impairing exhaust gas purification under EGR control. Additionally, condensation that enters the throttle valve may travel through the wiring harness and into the engine control unit, causing engine malfunctions, preventing manual DPF regeneration, and disabling various engine control unit functions. In the worst case, the engine may stall during operation and be unable to restart.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the intake throttle valve with a corrected part. Inspect the engine wiring harness; if condensation intrusion is found, replace the harness and inspect the engine control unit and all sensors. Any component showing evidence of condensation intrusion must be replaced with a new part.

状況
大型トラックの原動機において、EGR(排気ガス再循環装置)を制御するための吸気絞り弁のバタフライシャフトのシール機能が不適切であるため、吸入空気中の結露水が吸気絞り弁内部に浸入するものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、エンジン警告灯が点灯するとともに、吸気絞り弁の作動不良が発生する可能性があり、EGR制御による排出ガス浄化作用に支障をきたすおそれがある。また、吸気絞り弁内部に浸入した結露水が吸気絞り弁の配線内を伝わり、エンジンコントロールユニット内部に浸入するため、エンジンの不調やDPFの手動再生ができなくなるなどエンジンコントロールユニットによる各種制御ができなくなり、最悪の場合、走行中にエンジンストールし、再始動できなくなるおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、当該吸気絞り弁を対策品に交換する。また、エンジンハーネスを点検し結露水の浸入が認められた場合は、エンジンハーネスを交換するとともに、エンジンコントロールユニット及び各種センサーを点検し、結露水の浸入が認められた場合は、結露水が浸入した部品全てを新品に交換する。
