Filing in context
The Fuel Pump is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 57 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 12 Suzuki notifications from 2011 in this archive. For scale, 1,142 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 10 months.
Defect
The rubber hose connected to the fuel tank pressure-regulating valve is made of an unsuitable material. Plasticizer leaching from the hose causes the valve's internal check valve to swell, preventing proper regulation of fuel tank internal pressure. The resulting drop in tank pressure deforms the fuel tank and damages the fuel pump, cutting off fuel supply. This may cause the engine to stall and fail to restart.
Corrective action
Replace the rubber hose connected to the pressure-regulating valve with the corrected part and replace the valve itself with a new part on all vehicles. Inspect the fuel tank and, where deformation is found, replace both the fuel tank and the fuel pump with new parts.
